A dental crown is a restoration that, when cemented in place, covers the entire visible portion of a tooth. A dental crown may be recommended to cover a tooth that is damaged. The crown can strengthen the tooth and improve its appearance.
Why Are Dental Crowns Used?
Dr. Higham and Dr. Sauchelli may recommend a dental crown in Jupiter, Florida, for a tooth:
– That is fractured
– With a large dental filling
– That is weak and needs protection
– That is badly discolored or misshaped
– That has had root canal treatment
A dental crown may also be used to restore a dental implant or to anchor a dental bridge.
How Are Dental Crowns Placed?
In our office, we are proud to use CEREC technology, which allows us to provide dental crowns in just one visit! First, the tooth will be shaped to allow room for the dental crown. Digital impressions will be taken of the tooth receiving the crown and the surrounding teeth so that the crown can be custom designed and made. Your crown will be designed and milled expertly in our office. When the crown is ready, our dentist will permanently cement it in place. The fit will be checked and any final adjustments will be made as necessary.
How Long Will a Dental Crown Last?
Dental crowns can last for many years, or even a lifetime, depending on how they are cared for. To help your dental crown last, be sure to practice proper, consistent dental hygiene. Brush your teeth twice each day, floss once a day, and visit our dental office at least twice a year for professional cleanings and exams.
