Using oral DNA testing, our dentists can identify which types of bacteria are present in your mouth, and in what quantities. This allows us to diagnose periodontal disease, tooth decay, HPV, and other dental and health problems. We can then provide treatments designed to prevent further damage and restore your oral health.
Your oral DNA testing will consist of an oral rinse, which you will swish through your mouth. This sample will be sent to a lab for testing. A report will be sent back to our dentists detailing the type of and quantities of bacteria in your mouth.
Some types of bacteria are more dangerous and destructive than others and can lead to more severe forms of gum disease or other problems. These types of bacteria are often found in the mouths of patients with chronic gum disease. We can identify the specific strains of bacteria damaging your health and provide you with a specific antibiotic treatment when we perform an oral DNA screening.
