If Drs. Higham and Sauchelli recommend root canal therapy for one of your teeth, there are certain things that you can expect. Before beginning your treatment, our dentists will take dental X-rays to examine the shape of the root canal and the extent of the infection. The tooth and the surrounding area will be numbed to ensure your comfort during treatment.
During root canal therapy, an opening is made in the tooth, through which the infected pulp, nerve tissues, and any debris are removed from the root canal. The interior of the root canal is then thoroughly cleaned. At this point, the root canal will be filled and sealed and a dental filling will be placed to close the access hole in the tooth. In many cases, a dental crown is placed over the treated tooth to restore its size, shape, and strength.
